Main Idea

This project is the design of a villa for a family of four. The project site is in the Lavasan area of Tehran, which has a relatively cold climate. Accesses are located in the southern part, and neighborhoods are on the other three sides.
With a green approach, in addition to providing the needs of the building’s residents, this villa has tried to reduce cooling and heating energy consumption to a great extent by considering active and passive systems.

In the open area of the site, an attempt has been made to avoid unnecessary excavations by preserving the topography. In the southwest part of the site, there is a greenhouse for growing organic plants.

Passive and Active systems

As mentioned, Lavasan is one of the coldest areas of Tehran, and the heating equipment consumption in that area’s buildings is high. For this reason, active and passive systems were designed according to the following figure: 1. Thermal mass composition of the inclined greenhouse in the southern part 2. Photovoltaic panels in the southeastern part and using the heat from the panels to heat the rooms
In the summers, considering the wind’s direction in climate studies, windows are installed in the parts of the villa to provide good ventilation.

َEnergy Simulation

In the design stages, energy consumption calculation software (ladybug Tools) was used to choose the right design option. In the average temperature analysis of the building, the greenhouse temperature is the highest. It has caused the zones connected to it to have a temperature in the thermal comfort range. In the final calculations, it was found that adding these systems reduced heating and cooling consumption by 70%.
